Khadi  has always played an important role in the growth and development of India, from being a tool in the Freedom Movement to becoming an established industry in itself. It is very rare to see countries using fabric as their weapon of choice for freedom. Popularly encouraged by Mahatma Gandhi, the khadi is a woven form of cotton spun on a spinning wheel known as the Charkha. This fabric connects India’s past with its present and extends to the future.

Khadi Through The Ages

Though cotton is the most commonly used material during manufacture, Khadi is also made with silk and wool. A deeper look into the history of the fabric reveals that hand spinning was popular even during the medieval times, often using bone tools and terracotta spindles for spinning. When Alexander’s army attempted to capture India, they took to wearing Khadi clothes as the comfortable fabric helped them during the unbearable tropical heat of India. Thanks to Alexander and his trading routes, this Indian fabric had reached all corners of Europe and Asia, becoming a highly-demanded cloth.

However, the popularity of Indian cloth threatened the British and French, who flooded the Indian markets with low-cost fabrics and introduced textile mills as retribution. This worked exactly as planned, leading to a fall in the demand for hand spun khadi. Millions of weavers and spinners lost their livelihoods with the introduction of machine-made fabrics. The decline continued till it was stopped by Mahatma Gandhi, who helped to reintroduce the cloth to the masses. He linked the manufacturing of the cloth to his “Make In India” Swadeshi movement, bringing together people for a cause.

Cotton Khadi Dupattas

Our latest collection, designed by in-house designers, flaunts intricate printed motifs on comfortable cotton khadi dupattas. These fabric gives the dupattas an alluring rugged texture, adding charm and elegance to the accessory. Handcrafted by skilled Indian artisans, each dupatta goes through various quality checks before being shipped to the customer. This ensures sturdy fabric quality, vivid colours, and a comfortable fit. These dupattas are ideal for the summer, allowing for the cool summer breeze to flow through. The material is lightweight against the skin so it doesn’t stick to the skin even during the Indian tropical heat. It also keeps the body warm when wrapped during the winter.

From floral motifs to hand printed leaf prints, these dupattas add a pop of vivid colour to your outfit. They can easily be matched as well as contrasted, depending on your style statement and the occasion. These can best be paired with ethnic wear to add chic and grace to the outfit. We blend together tradition and fashion to create designs that are a unique addition to your wardrobe. An accessory perfect for all seasons, these cotton khadi dupattas reflect a rich history attached to the fabric as well as the motifs. Priced reasonably, we offer a wide range of prints and colours to choose the best fit for you. Experiment with your style and make a statement with your distinct look.
