Kala cotton is one of the few genetically pure cotton species remaining in India. Grown in Kutch, Gujarat, this cotton is an example of the original and pure old world cotton of India. For this collection, we have sourced this premium organic cotton straight from Kutch to make it a part of your wardrobe. Therefore, when you drape on a kala cotton stole, you will be wearing one of the last few examples of old world cotton in India and across the world, making each piece one-of-a-kind, unique one.
Handspun in Bhujodi
The 500-year-old village of Bhujodi in Kutch is famous all over the world for its skilled weavers. In this major textile centre of India, weaving is the basis of identity and tradition. For this collection, we have sourced genuine kala cotton that was handspun by these famous weavers of Bhujodi to create gorgeous stoles. This makes this collection a very unique one – not to mention an inherently Indian one too.
The production of kala cotton is an example of sustainable fashion that is a major buzzword today in the industry today, and for good reason. The kala cotton crops are grown using no chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, making them totally organic. These rainfed crops give rise to strong cotton fibres that we have used to craft the sarees in this collection. Moreover, the production of this textile provides livelihood to the artisans of Kutch.
This collection, on top, has been handwoven by the weavers of Kutch itself – from the famous Bhujodi village. This makes these stoles an example of India’s rich handloom sector.
