Pareesa is a collection of dreamy fairytale shawls with beautiful Parsi Gara embroidery. Handcrafted in highest quality pure wool, these shawls have been enhanced with delicate florals so you can drape on the garden of your dreams.

The origins of Parsi Gara embroidery

The exquisite art of Parsi Gara embroidery is centuries old, evocative of an era gone by, of vintage luxury. It is believed to have originated in China, where Parsi men travelled to for business from India in the 8th to the 10th century. The designs of Gara therefore took on an Oriental overtone. The word Gara, however, comes from the Gujarati word for sarees, since Gujarat is where the Parsis settled when they fled Persia. Gara work was traditionally done on thick silk sarees, though today it is also seen gracing lighter fabrics like georgette and crepes.

In our latest collection, we have used the designs of Parsi Gara embroidery on pure wool to create a gorgeous product worthy of you.

Drape on a fairytale garden

Unlike other Indian forms of embroidery, the motifs used in Parsi Gara work are uniquely Oriental, due to the heavy Chinese influence they display. However, India’s Hindu imagery and Iran’s Zorastrian symbolism also influenced the art of Gara – making it a medley of cultures. Oriental bridges, pagodas and shrines are a dominant motif in Gara work, where geometrical patterns have no place. But the motifs most often seen in Gara are inspired by nature. Enchanted fairytale gardens, Oriental birds of paradise, leaves, vines roses and butterflies come together to make Gara embroidery designs stunning and elaborate. Dense floral jaals are often a trademark of Gara work.

In Pareesa, we have used these gorgeous blooming flowers and happy birds of Parsi Gara work to create stunning shawls. Each shawl feature delicate embroidered florals and some feature elaborate jaals of embroidery. This makes this collection a fairytale-inspired, mesmerising one!

Pure wool shawls

We believe in using the best fabrics, which is why there is no place for polyesters and synthetics in this collection. We have used only the highest quality 120-count pure wool to create beautiful shawls for Pareesa.  All the shawls are pieces of art in themselves, and all of them deliver elegance and beauty without compromising on comfort or warmth.

The best part? This high grade wool is super soft and luxurious. Not only does that give our Gara embroidered shawls a beautiful drape, it also makes them very easy and comfortable to wear. Whether it is a traditional function with ethnic clothes or a Sunday brunch in a lovely dress – these shawls go with both Indian and western outfits.

Lovely colours

We have used tone-on-tone embroidery in this collection. The shawls – all in basic, beautiful colours like maroon, blue, black, off white and brown – feature tone-on-tone Parsi Gara work for a gorgeous finish. The scalloped edges – simple, yet effective – add another dimension of charm to these shawls.
