Luxurious, super soft and intricately enhanced – that’s our latest collection. Maheen is a beautiful range of modal silk sarees with Ajrakh hand block printed designs and kantha embroidery. The word maheen is used to denote delicate or extremely fine – which here applies to both the fabric and beautiful block printing work it features.
Modal silk sarees
Modal is a super soft fabric that is also known as wood pulp fiber. It is known to be extremely soft, lightweight and silky smooth. It also holds dye really well, making it perfect for our range of hand block printed sarees. Silk, on the other hand, is one of the most luxurious fabrics known to man. It is known for its inherent sheen and rich texture. Together, these two fabrics come together to create magic. Modal silk is soft, flowy and looks gorgeous when draped. This makes it the perfect fabric for our collection of gorgeous sarees.
Ajrakh block printing
The word Ajrakh conjures up images of jewel-like fabrics. Ajrakh - a unique form of block printing whose history can be traced as far back as to the Indus Valley civilisation – is today seeing a revival, thanks to a newfound love for contemporary Indian wear rooted in the traditional. For generations, the art of Ajrakh block printing has been practiced by the Khatri community, who today keep the tradition alive by practicing it at the village of Ajrakhpur in Gujarat as well as in the Kutch region of India.
All the sarees in this collection feature typical Ajrakh motifs that have been block printed painstakingly by hand. This gives our sarees a rich look with intricate designs brought to life in vivid colours.
Kantha is a form of embroidery that is typical of the Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha. The beauty of Kantha work lies in its simplicity, for it does not use any complicated stitches. Instead, simple stitches like the humble running stitch are used to create elaborate, intricate patterns that cover entire quilts, shawls and sarees. Kantha work was traditionally done on cottons and silks to give them a vibrant makeover.
Here, we have used simple kantha embroidery to add depth and elegance to our sarees. Together with the Ajrakh block printing, these two ancient Indian arts come together to create magic on fabric.
The colours used in this collection are vivid, jewel-like ones. Rich maroon, blue, red, green and black mix with understated beige and turquoise and white to create gorgeous sarees. This makes them perfect for festive occasions, especially as they have been enhanced with simple embroidery and tassled pallus.
