The word Kanisa in Hindi means beautiful - which is just how we would describe our latest collection of pure wool Kani woven apparel. This collection brings the splendour of the age-old Kashmiri art of Kani weaving to a modern setting with dresses, kurtas and pants - all of expertly crafted and beautifully finished.

Kani weaving of Kashmir

Kani weaving is a traditional Kashmiri style of weaving. Kani or Kanni, as it is sometimes spelled, has been around for the past 5,000 years, and flourished during the Mughal rule. This style of weaving was done using kanni – or small sticks – instead of a traditional shuttle. Today, Kani weaving is also done by machines – just like in this collection.

Kani patterns

Like all traditional arts which grow and flourish in a particular region, Kani weaving too is characterized by its typical patterns and motifs. Distinctly Kashmiri in style and flavour, these motifs include blooming flowers, buds, leaves, the ambi or paisley motifs, and of course the chinar leaves of Kashmir. In this collection, all these gorgeous designs have been used in the Kani woven apparel. Intricate patterns have been used on kurtas, palazzos and shawls – while western outfits like dresses and pants also feature these patterns for a beautiful traditional-modern look.

Pure wool apparel

We believe in delivering only the very best to our customers, which is why there is no place for polyesters and synthetics in this collection. We have used only the highest quality pure wool to craft some stunners for our Kanisa collection. This means this collection is perfect for the chilly season.

Whether you have a traditional wedding function to attend or a winter’s day sunlit brunch to host, there is something in this collection for everyone. The best part? All the outfits are elegant and sophisticated without compromising on quality or warmth.

Modern, yet rooted in traditions

At Tjori, we believe it is important to recognise the wealth of local arts and crafts in our country. Most of our products therefore feature some traditional Indian art like the Ajrakh hand block printing of Gujarat or the Kantha embroidery of Odisha.

This collection is the perfect medley of modern and traditional. It features lovely contemporary kurtas, straight pants and some gorgeous dresses – all crafted using Kani woven pure wool and featuring Kashmiri patterns. This touch of fusion is what makes this collection modern, yet firmly rooted in tradition – and for the modern Indian woman of today, it is the perfect collection.

A kaleidoscope of colours

We love the vibrant colours of traditional Indian arts and crafts. Our Kani woven pure wool apparel has a harmonious medley of colours – a veritable kaleidoscope. We love how different rich colours bloom together on our outfits to create gems. Red, blue, green, black and off white are some of the base colours where Kani weaving has been used to create multi-coloured scenes of nature.
