Pashmina: the diamond fabric
Pashmina is the finest type of cashmere wool that was first used to make textiles in Kashmir. Known as soft gold or the diamond fabric for its super soft texture and expensive prices, pashmina is today one of the most prized fabrics around the world. Pashmina is derived from the undercoat of the cashmere goat, that is found in the high-altitude Himalayas. This fine wool is derived not by shearing the goat, but waiting until it naturally sheds its undercoat.
In our collection, we have used 100% pure pashmina to create gorgeous shawls, which in itself speaks volumes about how premium these shawls are. With this gorgeous smoothness and exquisite drape, they are sure to turn heads everywhere you go.
Hand embroidered shawls
To understand the amount of work that has gone into creating these shawls, let us tell you how much time it took the skilled craftsmen of Kashmir to embroider them. The shawls which feature full and heavy embroidery in this collection took as much as four full years to complete! Even the lighter ones that feature embroidered borders took months to embroider. This is because these shawls were embroidered fully and entirely by hand.
Moreover, the embroidery is so elaborate that it actually increases the weight of the shawl! The threadwork is delicate and detailed, and therefore each shawl comes with two weights – one of the pure pashmina shawl and one after embroidery, as the weight of the thread used.
Finally, the intricate embroidery is done so painstakingly, is so fine that it looks the same in reverse as well. This in itself is a testament to the amount of work that has gone into creating these shawls.
Handcrafted by Kashmiri craftsmen
Pashmina shawls are a Kashmiri speciality. All the shawls in this collection have been woven and embroidered by hand by skilled craftsmen from ‘heaven on earth’ – the land of Kashmir. Each stitch, each motif was done by hand, thanks to the supremely skill Kashmiri craftsmen who worked on them. These shawls are as different from regular machine-embroidered wool ones as chalk is from cheese, as black is from white. They are premium and exclusive pashmina shawls that feature delicate, intricate traditional Kashmiri embroidery.
This makes them a labour of love – not just use and throw garments but a piece of our heritage that can be passed down through generations. These shawls have another special feature – they showcase the initials of the craftsmen who embroidered them so beautifully for you. This personal touch truly makes them stand out from mass-manufactured clothing of today. As such, each shawl in this collection is an investment, not a buy.
We have used basic solid-coloured pashmina shawls as a base to feature gorgeous embroidery in a riot of colours. White, black, beige, brown and blue – the traditional colours for Kashmiri shawls – all feature in this collection. Enhancing them is the traditional embroidery in a variety of lovely colours like reds, greens, yellows, purple and more.
So go ahead and invest in a stunning pure pashmina shawl from our latest collection.
