Kalamkari Dresses for Women

Kalamkari – literally 'pen work' – is the hand-painted and hand-block-printed cotton tradition of Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Tjori's Kalamkari dresses use these hand-printed fabrics in modern silhouettes: the bestselling red Kalamkari halter-neck midi dress, dual-print Kalamkari midi dresses, black Kalamkari gathered dresses and cotton-silk Kalamkari long dresses with belts.

What makes a Kalamkari dress different

Every metre is printed by hand with natural or vegetable-based dyes – deep madder reds, indigo, black from iron and jaggery, and mustard – so no two pieces are identical. The prints are dense, story-telling florals, creepers and paisleys rather than repeats, which is why a Kalamkari dress reads as festive even in plain cotton.

Styling

Wear a Kalamkari midi with Kolhapuri chappals and a potli for a wedding lunch, or with white sneakers for the day. For matching sets, see Kalamkari kurtis, kurtas and sets.

Sizes and care

Sizes XS to XXXL on most styles; halter and gathered cuts are the most forgiving. Wash separately in cold water for the first two washes, dry in shade and iron on reverse – hand-printed cotton softens and deepens with wear.

FAQ

Is Kalamkari printed or painted? Both exist – Srikalahasti pieces are pen-drawn; Machilipatnam pieces are hand-block-printed. Tjori's dresses use hand-block Pracheen Kalamkari.

Will the colours bleed? Slight bleeding in the first wash is normal for natural dyes; wash separately and it settles.

Cash on delivery? Yes – COD, 7-day easy returns and free shipping over ₹1,499.
