Diwali Card Party & Dhanteras 2026 Outfits: What to Wear When You Are Sitting Down All Night
The Diwali card party is the hardest dressing brief of the season. It starts at nine, it is indoors and warm, you are seated at a table for most of it, and the photographs are taken from across the room at midnight under fairy lights. Dhanteras is Friday, 6 November 2026 and Diwali is Sunday, 8 November, so the parties run the whole fortnight before – most on the weekends of 24–25 October and 31 October–1 November. What works: something with a defined waist or a strong shoulder (it is what shows above a table), fabric that does not crease when you sit, and colour that reads under warm light – maroon, rust, black-with-print, deep green. What does not: heavy dupattas that fall off, floor-length hems under a chair, and anything you cannot breathe in after the second round of chaat.
